Nov. 21, 2025 - Three major developments in dual-use and defence tech.
First, the UK is preparing to restart large-scale explosives production, identifying more than a dozen potential sites as demand for artillery surges. After years of cuts and shifting priorities, the return of great-power competition has underscored that traditional munitions remain essential.
Second, Britain is sending counter-drone teams and equipment to Belgium following multiple drone sightings near sensitive sites. The move highlights how grey-zone drone activity is becoming a routine element of modern conflict, requiring constant protection of critical infrastructure.
Third, for the first time, a US Air Force F-22 pilot has directly controlled an MQ-20 Avenger combat drone in flight using an onboard tablet interface. The milestone shows that established defence primes are leading the development of wingman drones, solidifying their role in future air combat systems.
